Store jewelry properly:

– in a dry, warm room, away from batteries and heaters;

– in a padded box, in individual boxes or jewelry bags;

– away from direct sunlight, dust and moisture;

– each product separately so that they do not scratch each other.

Do not use wooden and cardboard boxes to store gold jewelry, as they absorb moisture, which darkens the gold.

Do not expose jewelry to:

– cosmetics;

– medicines;

– chemicals;

– aggressive cleaning agents;

– abrasive substances and materials (scrubs, sand, manicure dust);

– various types of radiation.

How to care for gold at home

The choice of care products depends, first of all, on whether the gold product has stone inserts, the hardness of these stones and how they are fixed.

Gold jewelry without insert

Treatment with a saline solution is suitable for them:

1. Dissolve 3 tablespoons of salt in one glass of boiling water.

2. Immerse the gold in this solution and leave it for several hours or overnight.

3. Rinse with running water.

4. Dry with a soft cloth.

Gold jewelry with diamonds

There are two proven solutions for cleaning such products: with ammonia and with soap.

With ammonia

1. Mix ammonia (a 10 percent aqueous solution of ammonia) with water in a ratio of 1:4 (1 part ammonia to 4 parts water).

2. Put the gold jewelry in the resulting solution for 15-20 minutes, no more. Do not leave for longer, otherwise the stone may darken from prolonged exposure to water.

3. Rinse with running water.

4. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth.

With soap

1. Dissolve a small amount of liquid soap, dishwashing liquid or shampoo in water.

2. Wash the jewelry in this solution with a soft toothbrush.

3. Rinse with running water.

Gold jewelry with tanzanites and other soft stones

For jewelry with inserts made of soft minerals, gentle methods should be used to avoid chips and scratches.

The only way to care for tanzanite jewelry at home is to wipe it with a soft flannel cloth or a lint-free towel. It is better to entrust the rest of the procedures to professionals.

Caring for sapphires

Valuables with sapphires at home can be cleaned with a soapy solution. For this you need:

1. Dissolve a small amount of liquid soap or dishwashing detergent in water.

2. Immerse the sapphire jewelry in it for a few minutes.

3. Rinse with clean water.

4. Wipe with a soft cloth.

Sapphire cannot be cleaned with aggressive chemicals and abrasives.

How to care for emeralds

Emeralds are very demanding in care, because the natural structure of the mineral has microcracks. At home, you can only wipe the stone from dust and dirt with a soft cloth or paper.

Emeralds cannot:

– soak in water; 

– boil; 

– clean with brushes, powders, pastes; 

– exposed to steam and ultrasound. 

With any temperature treatment, an emerald can tarnish. The best solution is to give this stone to a jewelry workshop for cleaning.

How to clean topaz

Products with topaz are recommended to be cleaned with a soapy solution or special means for cleaning jewelry.

To prepare a soap solution, you need to take a small amount of soap or shampoo and add it to water. Then you need to immerse the jewelry with topaz in this solution and hold it for several minutes. After that, rinse with running water and wipe with a soft cloth.
